My first literary crush was Encyclopedia Brown, and I've been a mystery buff ever since. I believe that every good book is, at least in some fashion, a mystery. Because life is a mystery.

Agatha Christie's Short Stories

This post is going to be a work in progress for a while. Some of you know that I'm trying to read all of Agatha Christie's books in publication order. Well, the short story collections have created a great deal of frustration as I try to nail down the reading order. Some collections have stories reprinted from collections previously published only in the US or only in the UK. Some stories were reprinted from magazines. I think there may even be a few that were never published in the US. So this post is me trying to work out the original publication date of each short story.

The first collection I read for the challenge was Poirot Investigates (1924 UK/1925 US). It contains the following short stories:

The Adventure of "The Western Star" - 11 April 1923 (later published as The Western Star)
The Tragedy at Marsdon Manor - 18 April 1923 (later published as The Marsdon Manor Tragedy)
The Adventure of the Cheap Flat - 9 May 1923
The Mystery of Hunter's Lodge - 16 May 1923 (later published as The Hunter's Lodge Case)
The Million Dollar Bond Robbery - 2 May 1923 (later published as The Great Bond Robbery)
The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb - 26 September 1923 (later published as The Egyptian Adventure)
The Jewel Robbery at the Grand Metropolitan - 14 March 1923 (as The Curious Disappearance of the Opalsen Pearls, and later published as Mrs Opalsen's Pearls)
The Kidnapped Prime Minister - 25 April 1923 (later published as The Kidnapped Priemier)
The Disappearance of Mr Davenheim - 28 March 1923 (later published as Mr Davenby Disappears)
The Adventure of the Italian Nobleman - 24 October 1923 (later published as The Italian Nobleman)
The Case of the Missing Will - 31 October 1923 (later published as The Missing Will)
The Veiled Lady - March 1925
The Lost Mine - April 1925
The Chocolate Box - February 1925
